  Rumpelton doesn't paint the Stones, he exorcises them. In this stark MS Paint séance, Mick and Keith are reduced to their essential static — mouth agape, guitar slung like a weapon, all rendered in brutal, beautiful grayscale smear.

  Forget photorealism. This is memory realism. The kind of image your brain spits out after the third encore and the second bootleg cassette. The jagged brushwork, the negative-space stage, the lo-fi glow around the mic — it's outsider rock art at its most honest.

"I have, in my thirty years of criticism, endured a great deal. I have sat through gallery openings where the 'art' was a partially eaten sandwich sealed in resin. I once reviewed a canvas that was, and I use this word with full awareness of its generosity, breathed upon. But this — this Rumpeltizing of two of rock music's most recognizable figures, executed in Microsoft Paint, a software bundled freely with computers presumably so that children might label their homework folders — this has given me genuine pause.
