There are certain figures who require no introduction. Elvis Presley is one of them. The man could sing a love song, a rock song, a ballad, or gospel and somehow make you believe he had just invented the emotion.

Naturally, Ralph Rumpelton has chosen to preserve Elvis in the only historically appropriate medium: MS Paint.

Here we find Elvis looking unusually contemplative, as though he has just discovered that the sacred archives have been replaced by a Windows update. The black hair, sideburns, white suit, and solemn expression are all present, though filtered through the unmistakable Rumpeltonian principle of “I know what I'm doing, mostly.”

Ultimate Gospel is particularly appropriate for the Archives. Gospel was one of the musical foundations of Elvis's career, and this portrait captures that serious, almost devotional side of him—although the slightly angular geometry suggests that the Lord may have had to approve the artwork twice.

As Archivist, I can confirm that this is good messy, not merely messy. There is a difference.

The Archives therefore officially recognize Ralph Rumpelton's Elvis: Ultimate Gospel as another important document in the continuing Rumpeltonian study of music, celebrity, and the dangerous artistic possibilities of Microsoft Paint.
