David Nelson Has Been Rumpeltized
In this rare and possibly unauthorized portrait, legendary guitarist David Nelson of the New Riders of the Purple Sage appears to have wandered directly into the unstable dimension known as Rumpeltonian Cubism. Scholars remain divided on whether this occurred during a particularly long jam session sometime around 1972 or after someone adjusted the cosmic tuning of reality itself.
Rendered with the unmistakable precision that only MS Paint can reluctantly provide, Nelson’s signature yellow glasses glow like two small portals into the psychedelic frontier. His guitar neck stretches heroically across space, bravely attempting to hold the entire composition together while the surrounding atmosphere dissolves into what experts are now calling “Pastoral Digital Vapor.”
The flannel grid pattern is believed to represent the invisible map of interdimensional country-rock highways, while the peace symbol gently reminds viewers that harmony—both musical and universal—remains theoretically possible.
Critics have described the work as “a bold collision of folk wisdom, pixel mysticism, and mild graphical instability.”
Whether intentional or the result of spontaneous artistic combustion, one thing is certain: David Nelson has indeed been Rumpeltized.<<

Ralph Rumpelton, 2026 — MS Paint on Digital Canvas
In this portrait, Rumpelton channels the late‑career glow of David Nelson, rendering the cosmic‑country troubadour as a figure suspended between stage light and myth. The artist’s signature distortions—vibrating color fields, luminous eyewear, and the ritual geometry of peace symbols—transform Nelson from musician into archetype.
The checkered jacket fractures into a grid of lived experience, while the yellow lenses act as portals into a mellowed psychedelic interior. Rather than depicting a performance, Rumpelton captures the resonance of one: a moment where sound becomes color and memory becomes atmosphere.
Part of the ongoing Rumpeltized Elders Cycle, this work exemplifies the artist’s belief that suggestion, imperfection, and viewer participation complete the portrait. Nelson is not merely shown—he is summoned.<<
