There are certain Rumpeltonian artifacts that require no explanation. Then there is Frank Sinatra — The Very Good Years, which requires several explanations, most of which I have decided not to provide.

Ralph Rumpelton has taken one of the most recognizable figures in popular music and reduced him to a collection of black lines, strange angles, and an expression suggesting that Sinatra has just discovered something mildly disappointing about the universe.

    And somehow, it works.

The hat is particularly important. In the Avachives, we refer to it as The Hat Principle: when confronted with a difficult artistic problem, draw a large hat and move on. Sinatra's hand-to-ear pose provides an additional layer of authenticity, or perhaps he is simply trying to hear what happened to his face.

The lettering, the Reprise logo, the signature, and the muted album-cover background complete the illusion that this was somehow a real record sleeve from an alternate Sinatra universe.

    It is an MS Paint.

That distinction, naturally, is precisely why we have archived it.

Avachives classification: Rumpeltized Crooning / Unauthorized Sinatraography / Good Messy.

Archivist's note: Sinatra had The Very Good Years. Ralph has The Very Good Pixels.
