                                     Dr. Harvey “Trips” Mendelbaum

Dr. Harvey “Trips” Mendelbaum — art critic, cultural archaeologist, and lifelong survivor of the 1960s.

Raised on psychedelic posters, underground newspapers, and music that was apparently “going somewhere,” Mendelbaum discovered LSD at an age when most people were discovering algebra. He claims his last trip ended in 1972, although his family insists he has been coming down ever since.

Now in his seventies, Mendelbaum writes about modern art from a small apartment surrounded by unfinished coffee cups, yellowing concert tickets, and paintings he occasionally insists are moving. His criticism is famously difficult to understand, but he maintains that this is because “the art is still breathing.”

He has never fully recovered from the 1960s—and has no intention of doing so.
