United Parcel Service

My friend had a framed Bob Dylan poster that she had no room for so she asked me if I wanted it. I said sure. She sent it via Parcel Service. I work at night time. When I left for work there was no package outside my door. When I got home at 5am, there was this giant box leaning up against my door. This package has been outside all night. Somebody could have just stopped by and take it if they wanted to. I thought UPS was supposed to have you sign for the package or at least leave it and the person next door so it don’t get stolen.

I got to say thought, UPS packed it good. It was in a big box, then those styrofoam balls, then giant bubble wrap, then styrofoam over the glass, then that blue plastic over the glass.

The light you see in the picture is from the flash. I tried to fix it but no matter what I did it didn’t look right.

This was suppose to be Frank Zappa on the album cover. It looks more like Brian May with the Zappa moustache.

Rudy Linka

Here’s a Jazz guitarist I was lucky enough to come across in the cutout bins. I had no idea who Linka was when I bought this. I get it home and put it on and the first thing that comes to mind is that it sounds like John Abercrombie. I read the CD booklet and it turns out that Linka took lessons from Abercrombie.

The difference between the two is that Linka is a little more upbeat while Abercrombie is more mellow.

Keith Richards “Life” book review

I got this book as a Christmas gift. I don’t know if I would have bought it myself, I’m glad I got it. It’s really fast reading and you blow right through it. My major problem with the book is that he just rambles on and doesn’t really say anything. You figure for somebody who was in “The Rolling Stones,” you would learn a little something of what went on in the band. Instead you get stuff like, “we made “Goat Head’s Soup” then went on tour.” That’s not an exact quote but it’s close.

Here’s the book in a nutshell:

“I was born in England.

Learned to play guitar.

Joined the Rolling Stones.

Played clubs then made an album.

When on tour, made another album.

Took drugs.

Kicked Brian Jones out of the band and got Mick Taylor.

Took more drugs.

Got busted.

Took more drugs. But it’s ok, I can handle it.

Went to rehab.

Too more drugs.

Mick Taylor quit, and got Ron Wood.

Took more drugs.

Made another album.

Went on tour.

Took more drugs.

Mick is a bitch.

Took more drugs.

Fell out of a coconut tree.

Made and album and went on tour.”

That’s basically the whole book. I was hoping that he would have gone into a little detail about how they made some of the album.

I guess when you took as much drugs as he did, this was all you could remember.
