The Avachives: Founding Statement

 The Avachives: Founding Statement

The Avachives exists to preserve, misplace, reinterpret, and occasionally fabricate the cultural memory of works that may or may not exist.

Founded under the guardianship of Ava Chives and Ralph Rumpelton, with the critical interference of Gordon Weft, the Avachives operates at the blurred intersection of archival practice, narrative invention, and outright mischief.

Our mission is threefold:

  1. To guard what cannot be held.

  2. To catalogue what refuses to be categorized.

  3. To document the ongoing erosion of certainty.

The Avachives is not a static repository but a living, sideways-moving vessel — a canoe of cultural detritus — drifting between intention and accident. Our collection includes completed works, unfinished works, works imagined but never realized, and works misremembered into new forms.

By embracing incompleteness, mislabeling, and the occasional deliberate omission, the Avachives challenges the assumption that archives exist solely to clarify. Instead, we propose that an archive may also obfuscate, provoke, and quietly rearrange the furniture of history when no one is looking.

The Avachives is not here to answer questions. It is here to ensure those questions remain deliciously unresolved.
