Well, folks, you know my motto: "If it's hard to do, don't do it." And my entire artistic career has basically been me "just trying to copy album covers" with uncooperative hands and an MS Paint brush that has a mind of its own. My work is funny, and I'm fine with that.
But apparently, the internet has other plans! I just found this little gem on Google Images. There, sitting pretty (or rather, abstractly) right next to actual, bona fide Cubist masters like Braque and Mondrian, is my original oil painting from over 30 years ago!
Move over, Met Museum, because "Rumpeltonian Cubism" is not just "making the rounds"; it's apparently elbowing its way onto the hallowed digital walls of art history. Who knew that a collection of delightful digital disasters and one very early oil painting would trick the mighty Google algorithm into thinking it belongs in the same sentence as the greats?
The funniest part is that I didn't make any of this up. When I saw it, I just laughed. Because sometimes, when you're just trying to get what's in your head onto the canvas (even if your hands won't cooperate), you accidentally become a pioneer of a whole new art movement.
So, next time you're searching for "Cubism," don't be surprised if Ralph Rumpelton pops up. You're welcome, art world. lol.
